Sensex tumbles 626 points on heavy sell-off

MUMBAI: The stock markets fell sharply on Monday, as poor monsoon rains, swine flu worries amid weak Asian peers weighed on investor confidence. Equities tumbled following relentless selling by institutional investors.

The Sensex closed at 14,784.92, down by 626.71 points or 4.07 per cent. It ended on Friday at at 15,411.63 points.

On the NSE, the Nifty was down 193 points at 4,387.05.

Sectors such as realty, metal, auto, banking and oil & gas and capital goods fell between 3 per cent and 7.60 per cent. Realty sector was the worst performer today losing 7.58 per cent at 3,662.70.
